Stillness, Silence, Simplicity

Calm. Tranquility. Peace. Those things would be nice, wouldn’t they? Life is crazy busy and we can pack our days with a dizzying number of tasks and activities that leave us feeling scattered, overloaded, and exhausted. It’s easy to recognize our lack of calm and stillness, but we need to be deliberate about our next step. We need to cultivate silence and tranquility by being deliberate with our focus. Peace is within reach. And it’s usually just a breath away.

Practice

It’s easy to find amazing resources on mindfulness and meditation, but here’s a simple idea to try today. Just breathe and be quiet. Take a moment to take a slow, deep breath, pause, slowly let it out, pause, and do it again. Lift the top of your head, relax your shoulders and take another slow deep breath, pause, slowly let it out, and pause. I know a lot of people take a lot of time to meditate regularly. If you’re one of those people, that’s awesome! I like to practice quiet and calm every morning, but I’ve found that this is an easy practice to do throughout the day, multiple times a day.

"Thanks!" - your brain and body

Slow, deep breaths help relax the mind which lowers the heart rate. And the lower heart rate can help reduce stress. By repeating this process of breathing and being quiet, you can help bring your mind to the present moment and allow your body a moment to relax. Look for opportunities to practice being calm and still. Practice silence, just for a couple of breaths. Feel the moment of tranquility and peace. Keep it simple. Your brain and body will thank you!

Enjoy the day!
